Sheriff Stanley Noblin: Effective or Ineffective?

A reader's comment on a previous post gave my brain a kick start for this topic.

In your opinion, has Sheriff Noblin been effective? Why or why not, and please list examples to support your statements.

Not effective. One only has to check the papers' archives and compare. Richard Pulliam made quality drug arrests each edition. The only drug arrests now are two-cent crackheads stealing to support their habits. Burglaries and larcenies are rampant and deputies spend their shifts writing speeding tickets to folks trying to make an honest living.

Princess,

I would be very interested in seeing some data to back up what you've said. On the surface I agree with you. There has been very little in the local rags that point to a very active fight with drug dealers. Even Noblin's darling News & Record has been low and slow with praising his accomplishments.

I have also heard, from more than one person involved with the search for the little boy that Noblin wasn't as involved with that search as it appeared in the media.

Even if that's not true, at least some of the public thinks it is. What an interesting term this is, and if Jeff Oakes' rambings over on halifaxtalk.com are any indication, the next campaign will probably be very, very nasty. That's just what the citizens of Halifax County need.

Oakes and Noblin are both power hungry politicians. We haven't had a really good sheriff in 50 years.

They had a lot of making up to do to catch up with the mess that Pulliam and Oakes left. You dont see the drug arrests everyday in the paper. Give it time? That place was a freaking mess with the way Pulliam left the task force.

Not a single county around would work with them, nor the state police. You got blinders on if you cant see those guys as well as the road deputies are busting there rear ends for the county.

But for some reason noblin stays on there rears with bs policies and crap. The road is working hard. But if you talk with them most are not peachy happy.

Noblin is a better choice than Oakes, but may be over his head. He started out great, with all kinds of ideas...But you cant change the world in one year.

Noblin needs to look at one of the concerns Oakes had, because that is still a major source of jokes and concern for the county.

Last real Sheriff=Woody Bane

Bane might have been effective early in his career as Sheriff, but I saw him drive by a huge disturbance at the Scottsburg 4th of July celebration. He didn't even stop to help his deputies who had their hands full trying to subdue the suspects.

In other words, NO DICE... but thanks for playing.

I think Thomas Coates was the last really good sheriff. But, much like Bane, he did not have the drug problems that confront cops today. Then too, they were Sheriffs before cell phones, laptop computers, digital TV, fuel injection, crack cocaine, ectasy, etc. I thought Oakes worked with all of the agencies but he just refused to share the assets.

You got to be kidding, Woody was a politician, a good one. But that was it.
In my opinion.....
Stanley has a lot of cleaning up to do.....give him time. Pulliam was not the great one most thought/think because of all the coverage. Where is he now, what is he doing? Why did he leave South Boston PD? Do some background work and you will get some interesting answers.
Coates was before my time, what did everyone think of Eugene Shortt? Was he good, gread, OK? Have we really ever had a great sheriff?

What do you mean by this:
Noblin needs to look at one of the concerns Oakes had, because that is still a major source of jokes and concern for the county.

Fill in the gaps... What mess did Pulliam leave? What are "bs policies and crap?" How is Sheriff Noblin "over his head?" Why aren't "most not peachy happy?" You sound like you know a lot but your comments leave me thirsting for more! Did Chief Binner hire Pulliam after Stan fired him? Are the cops still teaching the gang education class to the kids in school? Answers!

Sheriff Noblin has done GREAT! In his first year, only 1 murder, over a Philly blunt!

Can one of you Noblin fans please point out his fulfilled campaign promises?

is the HCSO accredited yet?

"is the HCSO accredited yet?"

That is an excellent question!

Pulliam was with the SBPD before the HCSO.....

Word on the street is that SBPD spent a fortune in time, manpower, and Town taxes trying to become accredited and couldn't meet the requirements. I heard they didn't meet the evidence storage/inventory standards and gave up the notion. Oakes mentioned evidence problems at the debate. What gives Sheriff Noblin?

Nob is a goob!

What's a goob? A good old boy, a goober (what's a goober?), or a royal disappointment?

I wish I had my vote back. Stanley gets to work around 9 or 10 and leaves by 2 to pick up his kids at school, sometimes on the police car. He reminds me of Eugene who was another lazy sheriff who only cared about his special friends and family. I bet most folks feel the same way too.

I emailed the accreditation question to AndyR to post it over on halifaxtalk.com. Maybe Sheriff Noblin will answer over there.

I suspect all three. LOL!

I know in my book all three fit.
