Clarke Hogan's True Colors

Halifax's own Clark Hogan has finally let his true colors show in Richmond. South Boston's left leaning News & Record ran to the presses with this article.

Hogan calls a fellow Republican a "piece of sh*t." If he's willing to say that in public, I can only imagine what he calls others, especially Democrats, in private.

While I would never condone such vulgar language, I would like to ask a few questions.

1. Why is this so newsworthy that it took so much space in the N&R, by the high and mighty Tom? One politician speaking vulgar to another is unfortunately commonplace these days, I am afraid. Publishing one side of a private conversation is dishonest in my view. Especially by a reporter who is known to use that very language himself. His writing with such feigned indignation would be sickening...if not so predictable.

2. Since the great Tom has deemed this of great note....I would, if I really cared that is, be interested to know the entire exchange...and the background that lead up to it. While it would not necessarily justify it, it may explain it.

3. If this bill was so agreeable to everyone that it would eventually everyone's vote but Hogan's, then why would Marshall feel the need BEFORE THE VOTE to come and 'plead' with Hogan for the vote....perhaps it was an opportunity for him to make jabs at Hogan to which he inappropriately responded? Is that not a possibility? Obviously there is bad blood..which is admitted to by Marshall in the article...why did he even go to Hogan at all?

Look, Hogan should have voted for the bill, but it was not necessary for its passage. I suspect he wanted to send a [another] message to Marshall.

I for one, will give Clarke the benefit of the doubt. Especially considering the source from with the information came to us (Mr. 'I really dislike Hogan' Tom.

However, I wish he [Hogan] would clean up his mouth!

Additionally, I am not sure that this event defines Mr. Hogan, or shows his 'true colors'.

Clarke has my support as well! If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck....then it's a damn duck or, in this case, a P.O.S. I love a man who doesn't back away from a fight or kiss butt because it's politically correct. Way to go Mr. Hogan!

All of your arguments may be valid, but it doesn't negate Hogan's stupidity in this matter.

Also, I understood that Hogan was being asked to sign on as a patron of the bill, not to vote for it. It's not uncommon for the entire House and Senate to co-sponsor bills of this type.

Maybe Marshall thought Hogan would put aside their differences for this feel good bill. Too bad Hogan's pettiness got the best of him.

I don't care if Tom McLaughlin curses like a sailor. He's no friend of mine. I respect his opinion on some matters, but not all. Also, I admitted that his paper leans to the left. They aren't perfect, but they are needed to offset Keith Shelton's right wing paper.

This may not qualify as a news item to you, but I'd bet that if it had happened on the other side of the aisle it would've been page one for the Times Dispatch and would be quite the stir in the blogosphere today.

You are welcome to give Hogan all the free passes you want. Just as long as he toes the line you support I'm sure you don't care.

I posted about it here as a glimpse inside the man that people in Halifax County love to canonize. Clarke Hogan may be Southside's darling, but I don't buy his perfect family man act. He's in Richmond only as a stepping stone to more power. Probably not in the upcoming election cycle, but likely the next.

I agree. If it looks, sounds, and walks like an arrogant jerk, then it must be an arrogant jerk.

Ergo, Clarke Hogan is an arrogant jerk.

Obviously you too have some personal animosity toward Mr. Hogan.

Since you referred to it as an act, do you know that the 'family man image' is inaccurate?

What politician does not have ambitions for higher office?

Making such sweeping judgments of someone, based on a single incident to me seems a little unfair.

That is unless you have other reasons that you might care to share for your personal animosity.

Here is a quote for you mr. halifaxvanews;

"Most often men hate those perceived negative character traits in others, that actually they see in themselves"

I accept that I can be an arrogant jerk. Let's see you own up to having the traits of those you dislike.

Oh wait, you don't even use a moniker to differentiate your anonymous comments from all the other anonymous comments.

Whenever you use quotes like that, remember that they apply to yourself as much as it does to those you're attacking.

"Making such sweeping judgments of someone, based on a single incident to me seems a little unfair."

So be it. I've never been accused of being completely fair. I'm obviously not the only person that has little use of Mr. Hogan.

If you think the one outburst I referenced in this blog post is the only hissy fit he's thrown, you need to read more blogs and search him out on youtube. He regularly incites eye rolls when he's speaking in Richmond.

The difference between Hogan and I is that I haven't asked for your vote and I never will.

You're free to support whoever you wish. Just don't forget that others are allowed the same option.

You guys defending Clarke are too funny. Ask around in the business world about him. Very few people love the man unless they're diehard republicans.

You have to remember the GOP creedo:

1. Tax cuts solve every problem.
2. goto 1.

I'm laughing at both sides on this one! ROFL

OK, Mr. Halifaxvanews;

From now on I will be known as 'the moniker', so that I am differentiated between you and the other anonymous posters.

I truly hope it makes you happy.

Sincerely,
'the moniker'

PS I agree with most of what you post, and I even agree that Hogan should have not been so petty and not used that language. I Just do not think it necessarily defines him.

As for the "eye rolling" he gets in Richmond. Tell me a politician that does not? Is that not the nature of it? Plus, if it is the fat cats from NOVA that are rolling their eyes, I say let 'em roll!

But, Mom, everyone else is doing it. Darn, why do I have to get in trouble for it?

Weakest excuse ever.
